Ella is a retired milking cow that was surrenedered to the RASTA Sanctuary instead of being sent for slaughter.  She is a Jersey cow that came to us in the late fall of 2017 at the age of 10 years.  Although Ella was bred many times (in order for her to produce milk) she was never able to keep her calves.  The lady that surrendered her told us that they would take away her babies as soon as they were born, and before Ella could Even turn around to see them so that they could prevent mother and calf from bonding.  Despite never having had the opportunity to be a mother, Ella is very loving and motherly to the many animals at the Sanctuary and can often be seen licking them. 

In the early spring of 2018, a young calf by the name of Eddie was surrendered to the Sanctuary and Ella finally got her chance to be a mother!  Ella and Eddie have pretty much been inseperable ever since.
