Violet
Violet came to RASTA Sanctuary after being surrendered to the Central Regional District pound in southern Vancouver Island. She was well loved by her former caregiver, but needed a new home.
Unfortunately it is a challenge to constantly be finding homes for hens, as they are bred in such vast numbers because humans want to eat their eggs. The majority of them are rehomed to places that are not sanctuaries, where they will continue to be exploited and may face slaughter when their production decreases after a couple of years. Forever homes for chickens are truly few and far between.
Violet is a lovely lady, she stands out with her unique smokey grey and bright orange feathers, and is one of the quickest hens in the flock - she is gentle and kind to the other hens, and seems to fit in with any group she joins.
