Taz and George have come to RASTA for their forever home after being forcefully evicted from their previous rescue home.

This pair of sweet bantam boys were going to be killed because they were born male, but a RASTA volunteer, Caleb, rescued them from that end only to eventually have neighbours send bylaw officers after them when the two crowed, which all roosters naturally do.  They were happy for years, but it only takes one unkind person complaining, and the officers began to make threats towards the entire coop of rescues.  For their own safety, Taz and George needed to relocate here to RASTA.

Because they're small, and up against a plethora of younger, significantly larger roosters, Taz and George live in the yard of the sanctuary.  They're very gentle souls, who love being carried around by their human friends at the sanctuary.

At RASTA, we hear stories like Taz and George's all the time.  Backyard egg farmers looking to get rid of roosters that were improperly sexed.  These two got lucky that Caleb noticed the ad for them and was able to help, but we simply cannot rescue all the roosters born to the egg industry who are to be killed because they're male.  Eating eggs always comes at the cost of the lives of roosters, which is one of many reasons we educate the public about leaving the cruelty of eggs off their plates.
