Pheonix is a turkey, and quite the miracle.

Gerry, who is a hermaphroditic turkey, was always believed to be essentially male, and so it was a huge surprise when one morning Gerry was wandering the sanctuary with a chick in tow.  Eventually her nest was found and it was dicovered that one of the other eggs, although cracked, contained a chick.  At first it looked like the poor chick had died, but he suddenly started to breath, and after very intensive care, Pheonix got stronger and is now as healthy as can be and growing quickly.  Gerry never accepted him, so he's been hand raised and is closer to humans than his sibling Terri or his mother, but his comfort around people means he still has plenty of family here and is very loved.
