Henny and her many hen friends were rescued from slaughter after their egg production had decreased and they were no longer deemed profitable birds.  They were only two years old when their former owner was looking to dispose of them by whatever means necessary and fortunately for the hens RASTA was able to intervene.  As part of RASTA's feathered family, there are currently several hens, ducks, turkeys and a rooster living at the Sanctuary.
